Why we fact-checked this: The claim can be found on a post dated April 7 on the Facebook page “LYNS.B.” The post shares video footage of an SMNI news report of Hungary’s withdrawal from the ICC with the following caption: “Bakit wala to sa ibang media?” (Why is this not found in other media?) The post also states: “Hindi ito binalita sa ibang media” (It was not reported by other media outlets). Hungary and the ICC: The post, as well as some of the comments made by social media users, implied that Hungary’s withdrawal from the court was linked to the arrest of former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte and his subsequent transfer to ICC custody over crimes against humanity charges. Orban said Hungary would not respect the ICC ruling, calling it “brazen, cynical and completely unacceptable.” Duterte and the ICC: Hungary is the third country to withdraw from the ICC, following Burundi and the Philippines. Similar such claims have surfaced pertaining to Duterte’s arrest, such as false claims that the media did not report pro-Duterte rallies in The Hague and that there was no media coverage of Duterte’s statements during an October 2024 Senate hearing on the war on drugs.
