MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives impeached Vice President Sara Duterte in February for threatening to assassinate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This came amid tensions between the Marcos and Duterte camps, leading to Duterte’s resignation as education secretary and the official split of the Uniteam, the camps’ politicial alliance for the 2022 elections. Under the timetable released by Senate President Francis Escudero, Duterte will be tried by end-July, or in the next Congress.
